Where has Lola/Elle Maxwell been??

*Note: I hate referring to myself in third person so don't even ask why I didn't change the title.

I know a lot of you guys are wondering where I've been lately and what's up with new music, right? Well, it's been a lot of changes going on and I know yall are tired of hearing and seeing the phrase "new music coming soon!". I'm tired of writing it to tell you the truth. When I speak of changes I'm referring to new management and projects. Problems arise when I go to try to figure out which particular project in which I need to direct my focus. Two things are certain as of right now: 1. I will be putting out a live and "unplugged" mixtape consisting of old and new songs and 2. I will be putting out my EP RUSH. Now, I don't know which one will come first but you will definitely be hearing new tracks from either projects. I kind of feel like I need to be more in control of my craft and my career so plainly put ... I'm gonna stop bullshitting. As I mentioned in my latest update I am in my last semester of undergraduate school here at VCU so most of my attention is directed toward finishing it off right! I will try my hardest to get in the studio and get shit done for my fans and for my sanity. I gotta thank my fans, friends, and supporters for all the love they have shown me thus far and for sticking by me the whole time. Love yall!

*BTW, hope you guys like the name change. It's catchy after you say it a few times in your head =)

Had one of the best nights of my life in 2011 so far. If you ever come to Richmond, VA you must go to The Hat Factory. I’ve been here for four years now. I’m late as shit.

I took a writing break and checked out the blogs for anything new be it music, fashion, lifestyles, etc. Now, I saw the video still for the first roundtable discussion from Dee Vazquez but never watched it. After watching this though I feel like I have to pay attention, especially because it's concerning one of the fields that I'm going into. These lovely ladies talked about the status of women in hip hop as far as will there ever be one to just break out into the industry without needing a cosign or being the token female rapper out of 20+ dudes. Since females have entered the hip hop music industry there has always been a cosign needed to give her that extra push or be heard by her targeted audience. I don't know why that's the case (politics) but it is. They made valid points in this discussion when they brought up Eve, Amil, Remy Ma, and now Nikki Minaj being that token female emcee out their clicks.

My take on it is, although we are in a new year and technology is rapidly evolving such as the internet and its many outlets, having a female break out on her own is not going to happen overnight. When you get into any industry or field you realize that there is much so politics going on that it's not funny. I'm not saying it's impossible but look what year it is - 2011. It's been well over 20 years and we still have yet to a female emcee come into the hip hop scene all on her own without any cosign. I would love to see the opposite of that happen and I would love for it to be me! But when you're dealing with money, egos, and the opposite sex the odds of that happening is seeming more like a fairytale.

I am loving this turban/head wrap trend. I wouldn't call it "new" because there have been millions of people rocking them in various styles. Some wear them for cultural reasons and others for fashion. I usually sport these babies for ease and fashion. They're so versatile and convenient! Especially on those days when my hair is just not cooperating. Also, these cold winter days cannot be good for my hair so wrapping them up in a brightly-colored fashionable wrap is right down my alley. Since my hair is short i tend to wrap the entire piece around hair without leaving any out. I recently posted a photo of me rocking the "new fashion trend" and I absolutely love the shade of blue!! I found the material in my house a couple weeks ago when my mother and I were in the process of de-cluttering along with a fuschia, yellow, neon green, and orange. Today, I picked up some more prints from Hancock Fabrics. I can't wait to rock em! OW!!

Awww man, I really gotta get back into dancing. I remember way back when me and my besty used to make videos of us dancing and putting them on Youtube.com. Check them out if you dare! Haha ... Chris Brown can really move though, I'm impressed!

Change is good.

I've decided to alter my name guys. Although I loved the name 'Lola Maxwell' there's already another female hip hop artist with the name Lola and I can't begin to tell you how annoying it is to be confused with her. No offense, though. It hinders me from particular things business/career wise. Plus, I just like the new name ... its chic. As I take bigger steps into my career a lot of things are going to be happening/changing. I won't say too much. Gotta build the suspense and anticipation =) Just know that you're going to be hearing and seeing a lot more of Elle Maxwell (pronounced ELLE like the fashion magazine), the artist. Until the next update ... do what you love and f*ck the rest. We got birds falling out of the sky and fish dying on the shores ... no time to bullshit.
